- USS Liberty Shipwreck – The Crown Jewel of Tulamben Dive
The USS Liberty Shipwreck is without a doubt the most famous and iconic site for Diving in Tulamben. This American cargo ship was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine during World War II and now lies just 25 meters offshore, between 5 to 30 meters deep.
Covered in soft and hard corals, the wreck is teeming with life. Expect to see barracudas, bumphead parrotfish, garden eels, angelfish, and even occasional reef sharks. Because of its shallow depth and easy shore access, it’s suitable for all certification levels.
Early morning dives offer mesmerizing encounters with giant trevally and schooling jacks, while night dives reveal a completely different spectacle with Spanish dancers and sleeping turtles nestled within the structure.
- Coral Garden – A Haven of Color and Tranquility
Just a few minutes’ swim from the USS Liberty lies the Coral Garden, a vibrant, shallow reef that captivates with its psychedelic corals and diverse marine life. Depths range from 3 to 12 meters, making this site perfect for snorkelers and beginner divers.
This site is a macro photographer’s paradise. Keep your eyes peeled for nudibranchs, clownfish, ribbon eels, harlequin shrimp, and ghost pipefish. Artificial reef structures have been added to support coral growth and enhance the diving experience.
With the morning sun filtering through the clear water, this site becomes a radiant kaleidoscope of colors, offering the perfect opportunity to appreciate the full beauty of Tulamben Dive sites.
- Drop-Off (Tulamben Wall) – A Dramatic Underwater Cliff
Located at the eastern end of the beach, the Drop-Off, also known as the Tulamben Wall, offers an exhilarating experience for those who love steep descents. Starting at just 5 meters, the wall drops vertically to more than 70 meters.
This site is famed for its deep crevices, dramatic coral overhangs, and thriving reef life. Divers will often encounter giant gorgonian fans, pygmy seahorses, scorpionfish, and moray eels. The current can vary, making it more suitable for intermediate to advanced divers.
What makes the Drop-Off truly special is the unique topography combined with visibility that often exceeds 30 meters. It’s a true gem for Diving in Tulamben.
- Seraya Secrets – Macro Wonderland for Underwater Photographers
If you’re a fan of muck diving and the small stuff, Seraya Secrets is a site you cannot miss. Situated just a few kilometers from Mimpi Resort, this dive spot is celebrated for its rich macro biodiversity.
Dive slowly and deliberately—you’ll find mimic octopuses, flamboyant cuttlefish, frogfish, boxer crabs, and leaf scorpionfish hiding among the black volcanic sand. This site has gained international recognition among underwater photographers and macro enthusiasts.
Thanks to its calm conditions and shallow depth (max around 15 meters), you can easily spend over an hour exploring its secrets without needing to go deep.
- Batu Kelebit – Remote Beauty with Big Fish Potential
For divers looking for something a bit off the beaten path, Batu Kelebit offers a thrilling boat dive about 10 minutes from Tulamben. This site features two large coral mounds and a steep slope that descends into the blue.
What sets Batu Kelebit apart is the chance to spot pelagic species. On a good day, divers might encounter tuna, reef sharks, barracuda, and even eagle rays cruising by in the deeper waters.
The dive site is deeper and often has stronger currents, making it ideal for experienced divers. The visibility here can be incredible—up to 40 meters on a good day—allowing for awe-inspiring panoramic views of the reef and open ocean.
