What Can You See While Exploring Tulamben Dive in 2025?

March 19th, 2025

Nestled on Bali’s northeast coast, Tulamben is a quaint village that has earned a global reputation as a premier diving destination. In 2025, Tulamben Dive continues to captivate adventurers with its breathtaking underwater wonders, from the iconic USAT Liberty shipwreck to vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. This blog dives into what you can expect to see while exploring Tulamben Dive, offering a fresh glimpse into this underwater paradise.

The USAT Liberty Shipwreck:

No visit to Tulamben Dive is complete without exploring the USAT Liberty shipwreck. This 120-meter World War II cargo ship, torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942, was later pushed into the sea by Mount Agung’s 1963 eruption. Today, it rests just 30 meters from shore, transformed into an artificial reef. Divers can marvel at its coral-encrusted hull, swim through its cargo holds, and encounter a bustling ecosystem. Expect to see schools of tropical fish, sea turtles gliding by, and even the occasional reef shark patrolling the wreck.

Coral Reefs and Marine Biodiversity:

Beyond the shipwreck, Tulamben’s coral reefs offer a dazzling display of nature’s artistry. The black volcanic sand, a legacy of Mount Agung, creates a striking contrast with the vivid corals and fish. While exploring Tulamben Dive, you’ll spot the elegant sweetlips fish, the venomous yet mesmerizing Red Lionfish, and the tiny pygmy seahorse clinging to sea fans. The reefs also host macro treasures like nudibranchs, eels, and octopuses. Keep an eye out for endangered species such as the Bumphead Parrotfish and Hawksbill Turtle, underscoring the area’s ecological importance.

Unique Diving Experiences:

Tulamben Dive caters to divers of all skill levels. Beginners will love the calm, shallow waters and easy shore entries, while seasoned divers can venture to deeper sites like the Drop Off—a dramatic underwater wall adorned with corals. For a truly unique experience, try a night dive at the Liberty wreck, where nocturnal creatures like the Spanish Dancer nudibranch come to life. Snorkelers aren’t left out either; the shallow reefs and wreck’s upper sections provide plenty to see without a tank.

Tips for Diving in Tulamben:

To maximize your Tulamben Dive experience in 2025, timing is key. The dry season from April to September offers calm seas and excellent visibility. Early morning dives help you avoid crowds and enjoy the underwater world at its clearest. During peak months (July to September), book accommodations and dive trips ahead of time. Staying at a local dive resort can enhance your trip, immersing you in Tulamben’s laid-back diving culture.

Local Dive Shops and Services:

Tulamben boasts a range of dive shops catering to every need, from equipment rentals to guided tours and certification courses. Local outfits like Let’s Dive Tulamben offer authentic experiences with expert guides who know the best spots for spotting rare marine life. Choose a shop with a strong conservation focus to support the preservation of this underwater haven.

In 2025, Tulamben Dive remains a bucket-list destination for divers and ocean lovers. Whether you’re exploring the historic Liberty shipwreck, admiring the vibrant reefs, or uncovering hidden marine gems, Tulamben promises an unforgettable adventure.
