While most American divers have their sights set on Bali hotspots like Nusa Penida or Amed, there’s a quieter corner of the island that promises something truly extraordinary. Nestled on Bali’s northeast coast, Tulamben Dive sites are stealing the spotlight for offering a more authentic, laid-back underwater experience—without the tourist chaos. For U.S. divers looking to break away from the usual and dive into something different in 2025, Tulamben is the destination to watch.
Dive the Famous USAT Liberty Wreck — Just Steps from Shore
The crown jewel of Tulamben diving is the iconic USAT Liberty Wreck. This massive World War II cargo ship sits just meters from the beach, meaning you can walk right in and start your dive. Now covered in colorful coral and buzzing with marine life—like bumphead parrotfish, moray eels, and sea turtles—it’s a dream for both experienced wreck divers and beginners alike. No boat rides, no fuss—just incredible diving, right offshore.
A Macro Wonderland for Underwater Photographers
One of Tulamben’s biggest surprises is how rich it is in macro life. For American divers passionate about underwater photography, this area is a goldmine. The volcanic black sand creates perfect contrast for spotting tiny creatures—think ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, and elusive pygmy seahorses. It’s no wonder many U.S.-based macro lovers and marine life enthusiasts return year after year.
Year-Round Diving Conditions That Suit Every Schedule
One huge advantage for U.S. travelers is Tulamben’s consistently calm dive conditions. With warm water temperatures, gentle currents, and excellent visibility most of the year, it’s ideal for planning dive trips in any season. That flexibility is perfect for American divers with limited vacation time who need certainty when booking long-haul travel.

Affordable and Uncrowded — A Rare Combo in Bali
Another reason Americans are falling in love with Tulamben dive trips? They’re affordable. Compared to other Southeast Asian dive destinations, Tulamben offers great value for money—without sacrificing quality. Plus, it’s not packed with crowds, so you get a more personal, peaceful diving experience.
